I've always been into music as a child but the DJ bug bit me when I was about 14-15 years old. I was browsing magazines at Bookstop one day, when I saw the cover of this URB magazine. The DJs on the front looked like the coolest humans i'd ever seen at the time. The way they described scratching and djing in the article completely sold me on the idea that I needed to acquire turntables immediately.
It took me two years before I finally could afford turntables. The time leading up to that, I would terrorize the local MARS Music or Guitar Center, scratching my Mom's doubles of the Saturday Night Fever Soundtrack for hours. (Sorry and Thank you! I had to practice somewhere!)
My first records were Coldcut - Let Us Play & Natural Born Chillers - Rock The Funky Beats.
The first few times I played out were for friends bday parties / house parties. The first "Club" club I played at was Avant Garden back when it was called The Mausoleum. Aerosol Warfare invited me to play one of their crewmate's bday party. Much love to AW for letting me jam their parties when I first started out.
